St. Petersinsel has been a peninsula since 1878 (Jura inshore waters regulation). J.J. Rousseau chose this island as a place of refuge in 1765. The Rousseau Museum Room is open to visitors at the hotel (formerly a priory). A wide variety of birdlife; nature reserve.

This island is the site of a ruined castle with two mighty towers and a chapel. There are also the remains of a little town dating from the 13th century which was flooded when the Saane dam was built in 1947.

Two islands: the smaller is St. Apollinaris (under preservation and not accessible) and
the larger is St. Pankratius. Exotic vegetation. Botanical gardens of the Canton of Ticino. African folk museum. Can be reached by scheduled boats from villages on the shore and by motorboat from Porto Ronco.

Accessible to the public by boat, this island has a letter box and, like a message in a bottle, post left here can be read by anybody at any time. It is flooded at high water.

The island of Ufenau in Lake Zurich

On the Island of Ufenau you will find a farm and two churches: ¿ the church of St. Peter and Paul stands on the foundations of a Gallo-Roman temple, and the church of St. Martin can be traced back to the 7th century.
Owned by Einsiedeln Abbey.

Small neighbouring island to Ufenau. The Island of Lützelau is a nature reserve and can be reached from Rapperswil harbour.
