Monumentally majestic, at over 900 m in depth and 1,000 m wide, the mighty
Aletsch glacier winds its way along between mountains 3,000 m
to 4,000 m in height. Discover its unique beauty on a guided walk from
Bettmeralp — the short two hour tour will already bring you closer to the
fascinating world of ice. And the trail through the peaceful Aletsch forest,
home to Switzerland’s oldest stone pines, provides great views of the first
UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
Further fascinating facts about nature are to be found in the constantly
changing exhibitions in the Villa Cassel at Riederalp. The villa, where
Churchill once stayed, now also houses the nature reserve’s information centre
and is home to a wonderful alpine garden.
