Baden has long been famous for its thermal baths: more than 2,000 years
ago, Roman legionaries were enjoying the healing power of its hot springs.
Baden is also the home city of the
multinational engineering firm ABB, and the city’s industrialization has brought
a stunning artistic legacy. Today, Baden is all about wellbeing for body, mind
and soul.
Art, architecture,

Sidney and Jenny Brown-Sulzer were
among the founders of ABB, and in 1901 they moved into the Villa Langmatt. In
1990 their private home, together with their extensive collection of
impressionist paintings, opened to the public.
Other villas from the founding
period of the company are also architectural and cultural gems, set in glorious
grounds. A fascinating example of the successful conversion and resurrection of
a former industrial area is Baden Nord. Once effectively cut off from the living
town, it is now a buzzing quarter of impressive modern architecture, and a
melting pot of culture, education and research.
